Laura Letinsky (Canadian, b. 1962)
Laura Letinsky is interested in remnants. She constructs and photographs scenes that suggest a discarded meal or party, arranging vases, dishes, leftover food, and various other detritus to explore relationships between ripeness and decay, control and haphazardness, and waste and plentitude. For her series Who Loves the Sun (2022-ongoing), Letinsky experimented with using natural and artificial light together to create a unique, radiant glow both aligning and subverting traditions of still life.
Laura Letinsky received an MFA in Photography from Yale University (1991). She received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2000 and the Anonymous Was a Woman fellowship in 2001. Her work has been exhibited internationally and is in the permanent collections of Getty Center, Los Angeles; Museum of Fine Art, Houston; Art Institute of Chicago; Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography, Ottawa; and many others. Letinsky has taught at University of Chicago since 1994.
