    Melissa Leandro (American, b. 1989)

Melissa Leandro is a multidisciplinary artist who uses textiles, photography, sculpture, and painting to explore themes of culture, identity, and place. She utilizes gathered objects—trinkets, mementos, domestic textiles, natural detritus—in her search for answers to questions of home. Beyond abstraction, Leandro’s cyanotypes are visual manifestations of childhood memories and ephemera.

Melissa Leandro completed a BFA (2012) and MFA (2017) in Fiber and Material Studies at School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work has been exhibited extensively and is in the permanent collections of Federal Reserve of Chicago; Hyatt Hotels Corporation; The Estée Lauder Companies, New York; and others. She teaches at the School of the Art Institute.
