    Jessica Labatte (American, b. 1981)

Jessica Labatte’s project Almanac for Shade Gardeners (2018) is a series of floral still lifes that, as she photographed every flower that bloomed over the course of one growing season, mark impermanence in the everyday domestic space of her home and garden. Surrounded by objects of childhood and play, the flowers in Labatte’s images raise questions about what it means to maintain an artistic practice within domestic spaces, challenging and redefining notions of motherhood as it relates to the history of feminist art.

Jessica Labatte received an MFA and a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2004, 2009). She has exhibited in numerous galleries and museums including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg, FL; Elmhurst Art Museum; Hyde Park Art Center; Higher Pictures, New York; Golden Gallery, and Horton Gallery, New York.
