Doug Fogelson (American, b. 1970)
Using found objects, plastic geometric forms, and natural materials, Doug Fogelson creates camera-less works that explore temporality and motion through photographic abstraction. His new project, Signal/Noise (2024), is a series of photograms made with multiple color exposures. Inspired by signal-to-noise ratios, which search for the audiological balance between designed sounds and intrusive background noise, Fogelson visualizes the synergy between the intentional and the incidental.
Doug Fogelson studied at The School of the Art Institute (1994) and Columbia College Chicago. His work has been exhibited by Elmhurst Art Museum, Illinois; Griffin Museum of Photography, Boston; Chicago Cultural Center; and many more. Fogelson’s images can be found in the permanent collections of J. Paul Getty Center, Los Angeles; Palm Springs Art Museum; Center for Creative Photography, Arizona; and various others.
