His evocative images of tropical and exotic places convey a sense of mystery, irony, and humor. Alex Webb received his BA in history and literature from Harvard University in 1974. He has been the recipient of the Leopold Godowsky, Jr .Color Photography Award in 1988, and NEA and W. Eugene Smith Foundation supplementary grants in 1990. Since joining Magnum Photos in 1976, his photographs have appeared in several magazines such as Geo, Time, and The New York Times Magazine. His publications include Under a Grudging Sun: Photographs from Haiti and Hot Light/Half-Made Worlds: Photographs from the Tropics.
