With the skeptical perception of an outsider, Peter Granser scours the Texas landscape searching for the slogans that help to shape conservative America. Through a series of photographs detailing the billboards, signs, and relics the artist found along his 12,000-mile journey, Granser provides a unique insight into the curious and oftentimes contradictory state of contemporary American culture, as well as the emptiness and stagnation that can be found within George W. Bush’s home state. The publication features an essay by Museum of Contemporary Photography Curator and Associate Director Karen Irvine.

Peter Granser is self-educated and was given the Arles Discovery Award and the Deutscher Sozialpreis in 2002, as well as the Oskar-Barnack Award in 2004. In 2006 Peter Granser was a stipendiary of the German Kunststiftung Baden-Wuerttemberg and was awarded the Helmut-Kraft-Foundation Talent Art Prize in 2011. His works have been exhibited internationally and are presented in notable public collections such as the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, the Fundación Ordóñez-Falcó, Spain, the ARTIUM Centro-Museo Vasco de Arte Contemporáneo, Spain, the Fotomuseum Winterthur, Switzerland, the Alison and Peter Klein Collection, Germany and the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago.
