Untitled, 2014Archival Pigment Print10 ⅜ x 15 ⅞ inches, borderlessSigned Edition of 50
Jason Lazarus’ (American, b. 1975) Untitled portrays a single yellow pin against a bright background with the phrase “Only love beats industry marketing.” A long-coveted object found by the artist, it is as if the photograph is wearing this found, readymade pin. According to Lazarus the text on the button not only alludes to his longstanding admiration of the MoCP, but reminds the viewer of the alternative economies embedded in art-object exchange such as the political, personal, or poetic.
Based in Chicago, Lazarus holds an MFA from Columbia College Chicago and a BA from DePaul University in Chicago. His work is included in major collections such as Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, the Art Institute of Chicago, the MoCP, the Bank of America LaSalle Photography Collection, and the Milwaukee Museum of Art among others. Currently, Lazarus teaches at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and is the Co-Director of Chicago Artist Writers. The MoCP includes a portfolio of Lazarus’ work as part of its Midwestern Photographers Project.
