In this body of work, Ron Jude (American, b. 1965) revisits and edits photographs he took as a teenager in the central Idaho town of Emmett in the 1980s. Firebird Raceway is an image of drag race spectators, but also a romanticized and nostalgic ode to youth as Jude looks back at his artistic and personal past.
Based in upstate New York, Jude received his MFA from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, and a BFA from Boise State University. His work is found in numerous collections, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; George Eastman House, Rochester, NY,; the New Orleans Museum of Art; and the Georgia Museum of Contemporary Art in Atlanta. Jude’s work was included in the three-person exhibition Backstory at the MoCP in summer 2013. He teaches cinema and photography at Ithaca College.
