Shannon Bool is renowned for her unconventional use of materials in works that upend authoritative histories by blending elements from art history, architecture, and psychoanalytic theory. In this series, she weaves together images of mannequins with images of urban architecture to speak to parallels between the hyper-idealized body and the ideals of Modernism and capitalism that are reflected in our built environments. This particular piece is based on an Halston image combined with a Chicago landmark, the Jeweler’s Building at 35 East Wacker.
Shannon Bool’s works are in museum collections such as Kunstmuseum Bonn, Metropolitan Museum New York, Museum für Moderne Kunst Frankfurt, Musée d´Art Contemporain de Montréal, and the National Gallery of Canada. She has participated in many group exhibitions and recently had solo exhibitions at the Kunstmuseum Krefeld and Centre Culturel Canadien in Paris along with her exhibition Shannon Bool 1:1. at MoCP in 2022–2023. She studied at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, Vancouver; Cooper Union, New York; and Städelschule, Frankfurt am Main. Bool is Professor of Painting at Kunsthochschule in Mainz, Germany.
